Safe Water at School
Get the Lead out of School Drinking Water State Law
The Missouri "Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act" is a new law to ensure safe drinking water in all school districts throughout the state. Knob Noster Public Schools hired a professional environmental consulting firm to conduct lead testing for all drinking and food preparing (cooking/cleaning) water sources in our school buildings.
Our testing identified water sources in our district with lead concentration at or above the new five (5) parts per billion (ppb) (5 micrograms per liter) standard. The 5 ppb level now required by the state is more stringent than the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) recommended action level of 15 ppb.
As part of our commitment to safety, Knob Noster Public Schools also chose to perform some additional tests of water sources intended for hand washing, cleaning, or other non-drinking purposes.
This assessment provides information to fully inform our school community about the safety of our water systems.

The Knob Noster R-VIII School District is committed to providing a safe, healthy learning and work environment for all its students, employees and visitors. The district recognizes the importance of protecting its students, employees, and visitors from potential lead exposure which may be present in drinking water and has established this plan to help accomplish this goal within our schools. This plan is designed to mitigate the exposure to lead in drinking water, food preparation, and dish-washing water sources throughout our facilities.
This plan was developed in compliance with Missouri Statutes RSMO 160.077 (Get the Lead out of School Act 2022) and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS). The Knob Noster R-VIII School District’s administration in partnership with our facilities department manages the implementation of this plan.
On April 3-4, Axiom Service Professional conducted testing in alignment to the requirements of law in all buildings operated by our district. Below are the results for:
Whiteman Elementary School
All potable water sources were tested in accordance with state law. Two potable water sources produced results that exceeded limitations. It was confirmed that neither source was in active use as potable water sources since COVID. Both were permanently removed from service.
The district will routinely repeat this testing every five years as required by law.
Sincerely,
Jerrod Wheeler
