KNOB NOSTER TOPS WHITEMAN AFB REGION ON APR FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

Knob Noster Public Schools stands atop the academic podium in 2017 for the Whiteman Air Force Base Region, edging out its own top performance in 2016. Today, the Annual Performance Report (APR), which is the comprehensive annual score card from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) was released for all Missouri’s public schools. The APR takes into account academic performance measures in grades 3-12 in the core subjects of Math, Science, and Communication Arts while also assessing factors such as college and career readiness, attendance rate, graduation rate, and dropout rate.  The APR serves as a significant indicator of the overall performance of a school district.

Knob Noster Public Schools is pleased to report that the district posted its highest ever APR score in 2017: 99.3%.  For the second year in a row, Knob Noster Public Schools ranks at the top of all K-12 school districts in Johnson, Pettis, Henry, and Lafayette Counties, as well as all districts in the Missouri River Valley Conference. This year, Knob Noster Public Schools increased its own personal best from 2016, by increasing performance in college and career readiness.  The district again received all points in overall academic performance in all subjects.

While Knob Noster Public Schools is proud of this performance, it recognizes room for improvement.  Already this year, the district has taken strategic steps to strengthen its program in several key areas on both ends of the academic spectrum.  For the second year in a row, the district added new Advanced Placement course offerings in Science, Technology Engineering, and Math (STEM) while also adding new programs in aviation and cybersecurity through its Air Force JROTC program.  A strategic plan has also been implemented to strengthen ACT preparation and performance.  In addition, the district has expanded its Project Lead the Way and Robotics programs in the high school and middle school level, to further strengthen college and career pathways.  The district also expanded support programs in Math and English/Language Arts for at-risk students and special needs students at all levels K-12.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jerrod Wheeler shared, “The district is very pleased with the 99.3% score on the 2017 Annual Performance Report, and we are extremely proud of the work of our students and teachers who have again proven that Knob Noster Public Schools is the leader for academic achievement in the region.  Our instructional team continues to strengthen and unify around that which matters most: our students, their growth, and their learning!”  On behalf of the Board of Education, we send a special thank you to our students, parents, teachers, and administrators, for a job well done! The district also extends thanks to its strategic partners at Whiteman Air Force Base, Department of Defense Education Activities, National Association of Federally Impacted Schools, National Math +Science Initiative, FIRST Robotics, Northrop Grumman, and partners throughout the Knob Noster community for their ongoing support of our students.”
